A Strong Foundation for Germany’s AI
Future

After two and a half years of intensive work, MISSION KI is entering the final stretch. Since its launch in summer 2023, we have, as the National Initiative for Artificial Intelligence and Data Economy, sustainably strengthened Germany as an AI location and provided important momentum for trustworthy innovation. Our results do not mark an endpoint, but rather a foundation on which the digital future can continue to build.

Practical Solutions for Germany as an AI Location

  • Data economy: By establishing sovereign data spaces, setting up a dataset search engine, and developing specialized software, we have created a strong basis for sovereign data sharing in the digital space.

  • AI quality as a competitive advantage: With a new quality standard for low-risk AI systems and a digital assessment portal, we enable companies to independently demonstrate the quality of their AI systems. This turns “AI made in Germany” into a genuine competitive advantage.

  • Experience and transfer: In our Innovation and Quality Centers (IQZ), we made AI tangible and applicable. At IQZ Berlin, more than 70,000 visitors were inspired by an exhibition and over 50 events. At IQZ Kaiserslautern, we supported companies—together with DFKI—in the concrete transfer from theory into operational practice.

  • Innovation: We built bridges between research, startups, and established companies. Through 20 collaborations between SMEs and AI startups, as well as six successfully launched AI spin-offs, we laid the groundwork for future growth.

  • A strong ecosystem: We worked with more than 100 partners, thereby establishing a strong AI network spanning science, industry, politics, and society.

This work was driven by the conviction that AI can only realize its full potential if it is shaped collaboratively, responsibly, and with a strong focus on practical application.

The impressions brought together here document what MISSION KI has achieved together with strong partners. They stand for the people, ideas, and collaborations that have shaped MISSION KI. The task now is to further develop these solutions and roll them out broadly into application.

We would like to thank the Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernization, all partners, and the MISSION KI project team at acatech for their commitment.
