AI in Motion: Political Perspectives on Physical AI

This image was generated with AI

What happens when artificial intelligence transforms not only our digital world, but also our physical one?
From autonomous vehicles and intelligent healthcare robots to humanoid assistants – Physical AI is no longer a distant vision, but a reality. The question now is: how do we shape this transformation politically?

In previous editions of our “AI in Motion” series, we explored concrete applications of Physical AI. Again and again, fundamental questions have emerged:
How can we ensure that these technologies benefit everyone?
What framework conditions are needed to enable innovation while protecting fundamental rights and jobs?
And who bears responsibility when AI systems act autonomously?

These questions are inherently political.

  • How are policymakers positioning themselves in response to these challenges?

  • What strategies are federal and state ministries pursuing to shape Physical AI responsibly?

  • Where do they see the need for action – and where room for maneuver?

On 17 November 2025, we warmly invite you to the sixth event in our series. Together with representatives from various ministries, we will discuss the political perspectives on Physical AI.

Lena-Sophie Müller from Initiative D21 will share key insights from the previous sessions and open them up for discussion.
This event offers an opportunity to deepen the dialogue between civil society and experts from politics and public administration — and to jointly develop pathways for a sustainable and future-oriented approach to Physical AI.

About the event series:

Artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping everyday life—not just by generating content, but by independently interpreting data and suggesting actions to achieve defined goals. And now, we’re witnessing the next step: the rise of Physical AI, where AI merges with robotics.

This creates autonomous machines capable of navigating a world designed for humans and performing a wide variety of tasks. These systems are no longer visions of the future - they are already being used across sectors.

Physical AIs are poised to fundamentally reshape how we work, live, and do business. But how do we ensure that this transformation benefits everyone?

With this event series, MISSION KI and Initiative D21 explore the far-reaching impact of AI-driven change. We aim to explain paradigm shifts, highlight social and economic opportunities, and contribute to a fair, sustainable future. Together with experts from academia, industry, civil society, and politics, we’ll examine practical applications of Physical AI—in areas such as agriculture, mobility, and healthcare—and discuss how we can actively shape this transformation.
