Federal Minister Wissing opens AI center in Berlin

Exhibition Designed to Build AI Confidence / Wissing: "Without AI, We Won't Be Competitive in the Future"
How does AI work? Where can it be meaningfully applied? What makes it trustworthy? The public can now explore these and other questions at the Innovation and Quality Center (IQZ) for Artificial Intelligence in Berlin. Federal Minister for Digital Affairs Dr. Volker Wissing today inaugurated the interactive exhibition space at the German Museum of Technology. Eight exhibits showcase AI products in practice: from language models and image recognition to medical applications. The IQZ is part of the MISSION KI initiative, through which the Federal Government aims to advance AI adoption in Germany.
Federal Minister for Digital Affairs Dr. Volker Wissing:
„We are creating a space where citizens can experience how AI improves their lives. Building trust in disruptive technologies is our central focus. Our society and economy need a positive, innovation-friendly mindset towards new technologies. Without AI, we won't remain competitive in the future. We must implement it broadly - in medicine, administration, logistics, and all areas of the economy. This exhibition aims to reduce reservations and practically demonstrate AI's benefits to people. After Kaiserslautern, we are now setting a strong example in Berlin for the development of trustworthy AI 'Made in Germany'."
Manfred Rauheimer, Chairman of acatech Foundation:
„The Berlin Innovation and Quality Center is a milestone. It motivates people to actively shape development, which is essential for creating sovereign responses to the global competition in the AI-based data economy. The IQZ embodies the work of MISSION AI and the entire acatech Foundation: We foster pre-competitive cooperation, initiate concerted actions, and thus enable the joint development of prosperous innovation and transfer ecosystems.“
Joachim Breuninger, Director of the German Museum of Technology:
„The German Museum of Technology represents the connection between humans and technology, between technological history and the future. This makes us the ideal location for IQZ Berlin. With the new AI exhibition, we offer our visitors an engaging exploration of a technology that already significantly influences our lives.“
The exhibition runs until the end of the year in the Loading Street (Hall 6) of the German Museum of Technology, with free admission Tuesday through Sunday. IQZ Berlin is implemented by the MISSION AI initiative, through which the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport aims to strengthen digital competitiveness. MISSION AI is a project of acatech, which advances the transfer of excellent research into market-ready applications as a neutral and trustworthy actor.
At IQZ Berlin, visitors can engage in dialogue with an AI-based language model, compete with AI in image recognition, and learn how AI improves posture in the workplace. Using mixed reality glasses, they can even look inside the body and discover how AI enhances medical treatments. Additionally, the exhibition conveys the fundamentals of trustworthy AI: visitors learn about technical functions, ethical standards, and practical quality assurance.
Furthermore, IQZ Berlin aims to serve as a meeting point for AI discussions. School classes and teachers can participate in guided tours and workshops, with discussion and educational events also planned.
MISSION AI opened its first AI Innovation and Quality Center in July 2024 at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Kaiserslautern. There, a special focus lies on developing testing procedures for AI applications to support companies in implementing AI services.
