Music, People, Machines: Creativity in the AI Era
Chances and Choices: Taking Responsibility for the Future of Creativity
From the first idea to the finished track: Generative artificial intelligence is turning the music world upside down. But what does this mean for the people behind the music? How can the potential of AI technologies be used responsibly—without pushing human creativity into the background? And what kind of framework is needed to ensure that AI remains a tool—and does not become a replacement?
The debate is reaching a critical point right now: On November 11—just two days before our event—the Munich Regional Court is expected to announce its decision in the GEMA vs. OpenAI case. The ruling is likely to have an impact far beyond the music industry.
GEMA is committed to ensuring that the rights of music creators are protected when dealing with AI. Through test cases against providers such as OpenAI and Suno AI, it aims to establish clear rules for the use of copyrighted works.
In conversation with Dr. Kai Welp, head of GEMA's legal department, and pop musician and producer Balbina, we will discuss these issues, shed light on the everyday reality of music creators in the age of AI, explore opportunities and risks—and ask how we, as a society, can actively shape the future.
