Sustainable AI - themed week and workshop

This image was generated with AI

How can artificial intelligence (AI) help protect the environment – and what does it take to ensure AI itself is developed sustainably?
These are the questions at the heart of the “Sustainable AI” theme week, taking place from June 17–22, 2025, at the Innovation and Quality Center (IQZ).

Throughout the week, visitors to the IQZ in Hall 6 of the Deutsches Technikmuseum in Berlin-Kreuzberg can explore the comic installation "Developing AI sustainably? Sea Cucumber Seeks Seagrass Meadow" – an artistic exploration of pressing issues surrounding AI and sustainability. The comic will be displayed in German only.

Highlight: Workshop with the AI Idea Lab on June 17, 5:00–6:30 PM
We’ll be on-site with our mobile AI Idea Lab. In front of our AI bus, you can enjoy a reading from the comic, a short keynote talk, and plenty of space for sharing ideas and engaging in discussion.

We’re especially excited that the author of the comic, Dr. Julia Schneider, will be present for the reading. She’ll kick off the evening with a humorous, meta-level introduction: Why explain AI through a comic? Blending cat content, crypto bros, and a sea cucumber with a taste for shoes, she provides an entertaining and thought-provoking entry point into the complex relationship between AI and sustainability.
The comic essay was written by Dr. Julia Schneider, with expert input from Dr. Marcus Voß and Clara Isakowitsch, and illustrated by Pauline Cremer.

The keynote talk will be delivered by Clara Isakowitsch and Dr. Marcus Voß, who, together with Julia Schneider, will use real-world examples to shed light on technical aspects of sustainable AI development.

The workshop will take place outdoors and is held in German only.

Also on site: Our AI demonstrators showcase how artificial intelligence is already supporting environmental protection – for instance, through BirdNet Pi for bird song analysis and our talking tree installation.

No additional ticket to the Museum of Technology is required for access to the workshop and comic installation.
